Rules and Guidelines
How many hours do I need?
What kind of hours can I earn?
All members must get a total of 25 service hours per semester. These hours are divided into minimums. You must have a minimum of 2 Kiwanis Family hours per semester and 23 In-Club hours per semester, but, if you do not get all 23 In-Club hours, you may have a maximum of 10 Out-of-Club hours that are subject to approval by Advisors, but in keeping with the objects of Key Club.
Kiwanis Family hours are earned by having at least 4 members of your Key Club get together with at least 4 members of another Key Club or another part of the Kiwanis family. Some examples would be: attending other schools Key Club meetings, Builders Club meetings, Circle K meetings at NSCU or Meredith, Fall Rally, Kiwanis Family Conference, District Convention and many others that are mentioned at meetings. You can get your events approved by the board or participate in the ones mentioned at meetings.
In-Club hours can be obtained through activities that are discussed in the meetings. You can also help teachers or tutor for free. You must have at least 13 or all 23 with no Out-of-Club hours.
Out-of-Club hours are generally events that are truly in the spirit of what Key Club does. For instance, participating in church events, volunteering places, or doing service for free. There is a limit of 6 religiously affiliated hours (subject to approval). Also, you many get a total (and limit) of 3 hours for being on a school team (sporting, performance, academic, or dramatic) or by earning 1 hour at a time for attending one of these events.
How do I keep track of my hours?
To keep track of hours, everyone will receive an Hours Record. You must record your hours of service with your Class Representative (Check with them for the procedure).
